Rodriguez, Stalboerger Earn CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month Awards

Comments

SAN MARCOS, Calif. Natalie Rodriguez and Andrew Stalboerger have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for September 2016. The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month. Rodriguez, a junior from Santa Clarita, had an impressive first month of the season for the women's cross country team. She set school records in the 4K and 6K, and took home the individual title at the Cal Poly Pomona CCAA Preview. She was a two-time CCAA Runner of the Week. Since the start of October, Rodriguez earned her third CCAA Runner of the Week of the year, and was named a Star of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions. She has taken home the last three CSUSM Female Student-Athlete of the Month awards dating back to April 2016. It is her fourth student-athlete of the month award while at CSUSM, a new record. Stalboerger, a sophomore defender from Canoga Park, became the men's soccer team's first-ever CCAA Player of the Week when he took home the award on Sept. 27. He scored CSUSM's game-winner vs. No. 21 UC San Diego and the game-tying goal against Chico State. He helped the Cougars to a 3-2-1 overall mark in September while starting all six matches and playing the third-most minutes. Other September nominees: Maddy Newcombe (volleyball) Jaime Jacob (women's golf) Morgan Simmons (women's soccer) Vahagn Isayan (men's cross country) ???????
