Trio Named CSUSM Student-Athletes of the MonthPublished by
SAN MARCOS, Calif. Three Cal State San Marcos student-athletes have been named Student-Athletes of the Month for their outstanding performances throughout the month of October. Jaime Jacob of women's golf earned Female Student-Athlete of the Month, while Justin Tesar and Joshua Litwiller were selected as Co-Male Student-Athlete of the Month. The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month. Litwiller and Tesar tied in the voting. Jacob, a freshman from Encinitas, set a school record with a 2-under par 142 (69-73) en route to medalist honors at the CSUSM Fall Classic. Her 69 (-3) in round one is the lowest 18-hole score in program history, as well. Jacob led the Cougars to a 23-stroke victory over the runner-up. Litwiller earned CCAA Freshman of the Year honors following a 17th-place finish at the CCAA Cross Country Championships. His 25:19.7 was the top time for a freshman at the event. The Carlsbad-native also took second at the Cougar Challenge on Oct. 15. Tesar, a freshman goalkeeper from Rancho Bernardo, broke the CSUSM single season saves record by recording his 68th save of the season during a seven-save performance at Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 29. He also had nine saves vs. San Francisco State and tallied six matches with five saves or more.
