Gulf Shores, Ala. – Sophomore Abel Hernandez (Alsip, Ill./Shepard) and senior Brian Corcoran (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) recently completed the  outdoor season for the Saint Xavier University men's track & field team by competing at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships this past weekend at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.  Hernandez finished 13th overall in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 33:36.43, while Corcoran took 23rd place in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:50.39.  In addition, SXU had two of its team members named as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes following the event with juniors Janis Pastars (Ogre, Latvia/Cameron (Okla.)/Latvia) and Ben Tracy (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) both claiming the distinction.  In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved a junior academic status.
