JDL RESULTS

Winston-Salem, NC - The Montreat College track & field team opened up the indoor season this past week, sending a group of men to Liberty University on Thursday at the JDL Fast track complex in Winston-Salem on Saturday.

On Thursday, five Cavaliers traveled to Liberty to compete in a 5,000 meter race. Rylan Hincher (FR/North Wilkesboro, NC) had a strong showing in his collegiate track debut, finishing the race in 16:32.55, a new personal best at that distance. Steven Anhold (SO/Churchville, VA) was close behind, finishing in 16:34.62, also a personal best time. Holden Dixon (FR/Chocowinity, NC) completed the race in 17:22.69 while Daniel Angarita (FR/Miller's Creek, NC) finished in 17:59.50. Assistant Coach Breanna Newton competed in the women's 5k event and took home a first-place finish in a time of 18:32.33.

On Saturday, the Cavaliers sent a handful of men to the JDL College Kickoff Classic. Erik Rodriguez (SR/Euless, Texas) came through with the top effort of the day, placing 4th in the 1,000m race in a time of 2:40.81. Daniel Lancaster (SO/Wilmington, NC) set a new school record in the mile, placing 11th with a time of 4:39.10. Lancaster also competed in the 3,000m, placing 12th in his debut in the event at 9:34.27. Joshua Kilgo (SR/Waxhaw, NC) placed 20th in the 400m (53.47) while Cedric Cash (SR/Creedmore, NC) placed 22nd in the long jump (5.83m).

"It's great to have the opportunity to get a track meet in before the Christmas break," said head coach Jason Lewkowicz. "I like to call December meets "rust-busters" because they basically give us the chance to get re-aclimated to the track after fall training for the cross country season. I think the guys we sent to compete gained some valuable experience and it will give them some positive momentum and motivation going into the break."

The Cavaliers will be off until January 15th when they travel to East Tennessee State University for the ETSU Invitational.
