DWU hosts first Cross Country Event of 2014

MITCHELL, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s cross country teams hosted the DWU Invitational as part of the Blue and White Days celebration Saturday at Wild Oak Golf Course in Mitchell, S.D.

The Tigers welcomed five schools to town for the event, which was won by the teams from Dordt College. The No. 2 ranked Defender women finished with a team score of 19, which was 50 points lower than second-place Hastings College. Dordt had six of the top seven finishers, led by junior Kayla Byl with a first-place time of 18 minutes, 27.98 seconds.

The Tigers finished 5th with a score of 146. Junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) was the top finisher for DWU, taking 32nd with a time of 21:45.85.

On the men s side, Dordt placed six in the top eight and won with a team score of 16, ahead of Mount Marty College with a score of 69. Dordt senior Stephan McNamera posted the top individual time at 26:48.41.

For the Tigers, who did not post a team score, freshman Lane Tibbs (Kenesaw, Neb.) led the way with a 13th-place finish and a time of 28:06.83.

The Tigers are next in action at the South Dakota State University Invitational Saturday, Oct. 4 in Brookings, S.D.
