[Baseball] Baseball loses to Concordia

Comments

The Cornerstone University baseball team lost the first game of a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to Concordia University of Ann Arbor by a score of 8-7. Game two was postponed in the bottom of the fourth inning due to snow.

Concordia jumped out to a big lead in the third inning with six runs on just three hits as Cornerstone starter Jon Knapp had some command issues. The Golden Eagles stormed back and got within two runs in the fifth inning. Both teams added on in the late innings but Cornerstone came up a little short in the ninth.

Knapp (3-1) was charged with the loss after battling through five innings where he gave up seven runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Brandon Willard was strong in four innings of relief. He gave up one run on two hits and had three strikeouts.

Sonny Mastromatteo went 2-5 on the day with one run and two RBI. Tom Enslen was 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI and Johnny Abbadusky added two hits as well.

The two WHAC opponents will meet again tomorrow at 12:30 to finish the second game from today and then play the originally scheduled double header. The loss today moves Cornerstone to 13-11 overall and 3-5 in the WHAC.
