Romeoville, Ill. – Led by record-setting performances by junior Janis Pastars (Ogre, Latvia/Cameron University) and freshman Abel Hernandez (Alsip, Ill./Shepard), the Saint Xavier University men's track team performed well at the Chicagoland Championships hosted by Lewis University (Ill.) on Friday and Saturday, April 11-12. This meet brings the top teams from around the Chicagoland area and includes NCAA and NAIA institutions as well as community colleges.  The Cougars performed well over the two-day meet with a number of highlights.  On Friday, Pastars took third place overall in the 5000-meter run with a NAIA National Championship qualifying time of 14:56.  Later that evening, Hernandez won the program's first outdoor Chicagoland Championships title by taking first in the 10,000-meter run in 31:47.  Both of these performances established new SXU records.
