[Indoor Track & Field] Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Season Comes to an End

Comments

(Angola, IN) - The WHAC championship, which was held last weekend, was a culmination of an indoor season's worth of work.  The Women's and Men's Track and Field teams arrived on the scene in their black and red warm-ups ready to compete against the other WHAC schools.

An injury depleted women's team worked hard and competed strongly on this championship weekend.  Joy Orr (JR, Lawrence, MI), who was fighting a horrible cold, amazingly broke her own school record in the 600m with a time of 1:51.38. Jamie Schaub (SO, Brooklyn, MI) who has been throwing well all season, reclaimed the weight throw record with a heave of 10.62m.

On the men's side, Charlie Jones (FR, Jackson, MI) had perhaps the most exhilarating race.  He is the first Cardinal in at least the last three years to finish first in his heat. Jones crossed the finish line in the 800m with a time of 2:02.86, just a few hundredths of a second off the school record pace of 2:02.24.  Max Morton also had an excellent day of competition.  A tightly focused Morton set a personal record in the 600m, finishing with a time of 1:26.  He also had an outstanding first leg in the 4x400 meter relay team that finished in 5th place and scored 2 points for the red and black. This team also included Zack Zoltowski (FR, Livonia, MI), Brandon Crayne (FR, Riverview, MI) and Charlie Jones.  Another relay team scored for the Cardinals, it was the 4x800m relay team of Sam Adams (FR, Ann Arbor, MI), Timothy Grimm (JR, Leonidas, MI), Andrew Gardner (SO, Flushing, MI), and Miguel Gonzalez-Feliciano (FR, Beavercreek, OH). They placed 6th overall, scoring another point for the Cards.

With the indoor season officially over, the young Cardinals hope to build on their indoor efforts as they move into the upcoming outdoor season. Before the outdoor season though, several Cardinals were recognized for their efforts during the indoor season.

For the women's team, Leigh McRobbie (JR, Brighton, MI) and Molly Rathje (JR, Port Huron, MI)  were named to the All-Conference Academic Team. Jamie Schaub was given the Champion of Character Award for the Cardinals.

On the men's side, a whole flock of Cardinals were named to the All-Academic Team. Ryan Bjellquist-Ledger (JR, Garwood, NJ), Robert Duff Jr (JR, Crosswell, MI), Jordan Foster (JR, Las Vegas, NV) , Timothy Grimm, and Alex Kitchin (JR, Flushing, MI) were all Academic All-Conference.  In addition to All-Conference, Timothy Grimm was also named Concordia Men's Champions of Character.

Congratulations to all of the Cardinals for their hard work on the track and in the classrooms! Go Cardinals!
