[Men's Track] Bulldogs Set Two National Qualifying Standards

Birmingham, Ala. – A select number of male student-athletes participated this weekend at the Samford University Open hosted at the Birmingham CrossPlex, in Birmingham, Ala. It was a successful trip for the team as two national qualifying standards were set this weekend.

Sophomore Chaz Hawkins set a NAIA A Standard in the 60-meter hurdles with a finishing time of 8.24 during the prelim sections of the event. Currently, his mark ties him for eighth place in the nation.

Hawkins would go on to place seventh amongst a field of professional athletes in the final section of the 60-meter hurdles. Jason Richardson, 2012 Olympic Games silver medalist and 2011 World Outdoor gold medalist, won the race with a time of 7.76.

Adding to Hawkins' national qualifying standard was sophomore Cadarius Harris. Harris set a NAIA B Standard in the 60-meter dash by finishing seventh overall with a time of 6.93. Harris' mark places him tied for 20th in the nation.

To end the evening was the 4x400-meter relay squad setting a school record. The relay team of senior Steven Dodd, sophomore Chaz Hawkins, freshman Bryce Choate, and junior Sheldon Wilson went on to finish eighth overall with a time of 3:24.04.

The Bulldogs will return to action for the last regular season indoor meet this weekend, as the team will travel to the UCS Invitational hosted at the JDL Fast Track, located in Winston-Salem, N.C.
