Charlotte, N.C. – The Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs placed seventeenth overall with 437 points in the NAIA race at the Royals XC Challenge, hosted by Queens University of Charlotte, on Friday (Oct. 9) evening.

Lewis-Clark State College won the NAIA race with a total of 72 points.

Senior Jacob Simmons led the Bulldogs with a 26th place finish of 26:00, followed by a 44th place finish from freshman Christopher Gabez. Gabez crossed the line with a time of 26:25.

Bulldog freshman Will Vineyard was 132nd overall with a time of 28:24, while junior Tim Murphy was 161st overall with a time of 29:52. Junior Luis Vargas rounded out the top five for the Bulldogs, with a 164th finish of 30:01.

When asked about today's performance, head coach Justin Herbert said, "It's a struggle right now and these guys are learning the importance of offseason work. Jacob and Chris are running very well though, and Will is coming along nicely. Bryce had to pull out with a knee issue today, but he'll be back soon. Behind them, we've got to find some heart, got to find some toughness. These guys are working hard, but we've got to take it to the next level as we head towards the conference championships."

The Bulldogs return to action two weeks, as they head to participate in the 2015 Sand Shark Invitational hosted by University of South Carolina-Beaufort. The race is set to go off at 9:00am.
