[Track and Field] Personal Bests Highlight Track & Field Effort at UNCC

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Montreat College track & field program kicked off the outdoor season by taking a handful of team members to compete in the UNC-Charlotte Invitational over the weekend. The Cavaliers fared well against a field of over 1,500 athletes that covered all collegiate levels, as well as professionals.

Montreat was paced by Daniel Lancaster (SO/Wilmington, NC), who earned personal best times in both of his events. On Friday, Lancaster finished second in his heat of the 1500 meter race, crossing the line in 4:06.16. The time was over four seconds better than his previous best time in the event. Lancaster would return on Saturday to run 1:59.39 in the 800 meters eclipsing the two-minute barrier for the first time in his running career.

Erik Rodriguez (SR/Euless, Texas) ran opened up his weekend by running 51.23 in the 400 meters on Friday and came back the following day to place 22nd out of 106 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:56.82. Joshua Kilgo (SR/Waxhaw, NC) led wire to wire to win his heat in the 800 meters with a personal best time of 2:01.26. Eli Hall (FR/Columbus, NC) also ran a personal best in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 2:05.70.

Brandon Welborn (SO/Traphill, NC) set a new personal best time in the 1500 meters, running 4:30.61. Steven Anhold (SO/Churchville, VA) ran 16:15.24 to set a new personal best time in the 5,000 meters on Friday night. Assistant coach Breanna Newton competed in an outstanding women's 5,000 meter race on Friday night and took home a tenth place finish with a time of 17:46.24.

The team will be back in action on April 2 when they travel to Spartanburg, SC to compete in the Wofford College Terrier Invitational.
