[Men's Track] BULLDOGS FINISH SIXTH AT EMORY INVITATIONAL

Atlanta, GA. – Tennessee Wesleyan men's track and field team opened up the outdoor season last weekend (Mar. 20th-21st) at the Emory University Invitational. The men finished sixth overall out of twenty-eight teams. In total, the men set six new school records and three NAIA outdoor national qualifying standards.

Senior Joseph Mullen and sophomore Roderick Bowman finished first and second in the 10,000m race, each running NAIA qualifying standards. Mullen won the event with a NAIA A Standard time of 30:45.49 while Bowman finished second with a NAIA B Standard time of 31:06.17.

Other notable performances from the distance men came from junior Arnold Mutuse and sophomore Chad Whitehead. Mutuse finished third overall in the 3,000m steeplechase, setting a new school record with a time of 9:31.72. Whitehead finished second in the 1500m race with a time of 3:57.68, which was 0.41 seconds off setting a school record for that event.

Coming off his victory in the 60m dash at Indoor Nationals, sophomore Avery Hubbard set a NAIA B Standard in the 100m dash. Hubbard finished third overall in the event with a time of 10.68. Hubbard also helped the 4x100m relay team to a new school record, finishing fifth overall with a time of 42.92. The other three athletes on the relay team consisted of sophomore Edra Gipson, junior Steven Dodd, and sophomore Daymond Williams. The freshman 4x100m relay team of Cadarius Harris, Kalan Hardley, Jake Morgenstern, and Chase Merrell finished seventh overall with a time of 42.98, setting the second best time school time in that event.  

In addition to helping set the second best school time in the 4x100m relay, Morgenstern set a school record in the 400m dash. Morgenstern finished eleventh overall in the race with a time of 50.38.

Freshman Chaz Hawkins also had a great weekend, setting school records in both the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. Hawkins ran 15.06 in his prelim race of the 110m hurdles and finished fourth overall in the finals with a time of 15.12. In the 400m hurdles, Hawkins finished ninth overall with a time of 56.97.

Finally, freshman Josh Parsons set a new school record in the long jump, hitting a mark of 21'8" (6.60m) to finish ninth overall in the event.

The Bulldogs continue their outdoor season this weekend at the Shorter Invitational at Shorter University.
