[Men's Indoor Track and Field] Johnston and White Qualify for Nationals at Wartburg Triangular

The Viking men's track & field team won five events and had two national qualifiers at the Wartburg Triangular over the Weekend.

Senior Keonte White's (Grand Prairie, Texas) time of 6.95 in the 60m dash qualified him for indoor nationals in March and also was a new school record. 

Sophomore Nate Johnston (Carroll, Iowa) took second in the weight throw with a national qualifying and conference-leading toss of 16.59m.

Grand View had first place finishes in four more events. Junior Michael Allner (Moville, Iowa) scored 3870 points to win the heptathlon. In the 200m dash, freshman Leeshad O'Neal (Wharton, Texas) won with a time of 22.74 while sophomore Malik Denny (Des Moines, Iowa) won the high jump (1.95m) and senior Kenny Simmons (St. Louis, Mo.) the long jump (13.96m).

GV had four more runner-up finishes on Saturday. Sophomore Jordan Cheatem (Des Moines, Iowa) in the 60m (7.06) and 200m (23.19), Jimmie Davis (Buena Park, Calif.) in the triple jump (13.36m), and the 4x400m relay team (Tre Porter, Seth Harjes, Bryon Christensen, and White) (3:24.92).

Other highlights for the Vikings were third place finishes from junior Cameron Paddock (Monticello, Iowa) in the shot put (14.60m), Porter in the 400m (51.94), Rhett Gainey (Monroe, Iowa) in the 800m (2:06.22), O'Neal in the 60m (7.11) and the distance medley relay team of Gainey, Jacob Gilbert, Ray Quiroz, and Nate Johnson (11:23.04)

The Vikings next compete at the Grinnell Invitational this Saturday, Feb. 7.
