[Women's Cross Country] Rhodes wins; Lady Bulldogs head to Nationals

DAYTON, Tenn. - Hannah Rhodes of Tennessee Wesleyan claimed top individual honors and is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year, but it was Milligan which claimed the team title at the AAC Cross Country Championship Meet on Saturday at Fort Bluff Camp in Dayton, Tenn.

Rhodes, a freshman, won the 5K race with a time of 18:50.28, nearly 14 seconds better than second-place Mackenzie Patten of Milligan. Hannah Segrave of Milligan was third with Tennessee Wesleyan's Robbicca Williams and Leah Chance were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Even though Tennessee Wesleyan claimed three of the top five places, it was Milligan which grabbed the team championship - the Buffaloes' 12th consecutive league championship. Milligan scored a total of 26 points as it had five of the top eight finishers. Tennessee Wesleyan was a close second with 33 points.  Both Milligan and Tennessee Wesleyan will represent the AAC at the NAIA National Championships in Lawrence, Kansas.

Point placed third with 72 points, Colubmia fourth with 118, and SCAD Atlanta took fifth with 172. Rounding out the rest of the field are Truett-McConnell (194), Bryan (228), St. Andrews (231), Montreat (238), Reinhardt (263), Union (281), and Bluefield (304).

Rhodes, Patten, Segrave, Williams and Chance all made the All-Conference Team. Joining them are Cassie St. John of Milligan, Jacquelyn Robinson of Milligan, Kate Roesendahl of Milligan, Samantha Greenlee of Point, and Amber Grello of Milligan.

Rhodes heads up the All-Freshmen Team with Robinson and Rosendahl also making the list. Bre Snow of Tennessee Wesleyan, Karlie Yiner of Tennessee Wesleyan, Alycea Heredia of Point, and Becky Guadiana of Point also earned a spot on the All-Freshmen Team.

Chris Layne of Milligan is the Coach of the Year.

Making the Champions of Character Team were: Bluefield – Alexis Warner; Bryan – Hannah Schroeder; Columbia – Helen Taylor; Milligan – Haley Keylon; Montreat – Brooke Alexander; Point – Katie Crumbley; Reinhardt – Kaylee Rinesmith; St. Andrews – Katherine Hutchins; Tennessee Wesleyan – Leah Chance; Truett-McConnell – Emily Hood; and Union – Kari Baker.
