Comments

The Cornerstone University baseball team lost three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) games to Concordia University of Ann Arbor today. The Golden Eagles lost by scores of 7-2, 8-2, and 2-0.

The first game was a continuation of yesterday's second game. Luke Heller was charged with the loss after allowing five earned runs in 3.2 innings on five hits and four walks.  Sonny Mastromatteo hit a solo homerun and Tom Enslen went 2-2 with a walk.

Justin Geerts started game two and suffered the loss by giving up four runs on ten hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. The Cornerstone offense put up 14 hits but was only able to score two runs in the second game. Zach Bohl led the offense by going 3-5. Travis Gordon, Dillon Reust, Nick Covello, and Joel Boersen each had two hits in the game.

Concordia spoiled an excellent pitching outing by Cornerstone lefty Taylor Cooper in game three. Cooper gave up zero runs on two hits in six innings of work. Brandon Willard picked up a hard luck loss by giving up a couple of runs that resulted from a controversial call on a tag play at home plate. Covello, Mastromatteo, and Gordon each reached base twice in the third game of the day.

The loss today moves Cornerstone to 13-14 overall and 3-8 in the WHAC. Cornerstone will play again on Tuesday at home when they host Calvin College at 6:00.
