[Track & Field] Warriors Season Opened At Kim Duyst Invitational.

Turlock, Calif. – The William Jessup University track season kicked off on Saturday at the CSU Stanislaus Kim Duyst Invitational. The field of teams included NCAA DI Santa Clara, NCAA DII and junior college teams. Through the wet conditions, the Warriors had a great start to their season. 

The Warriors top finisher on the men's team was senior Micah Hays.  Hayes finished the 400 meter race with a time of 56.18, which placed him in 20th place.  In the 200 meter, Hayes ran a 24.80 to place in 30th place. 

In his first career meet, freshman Kyler Malarae finished 25th in the shot put with a throw of 10.45 meters. 

Sophomore Christian Wichmann was the Warriors top finisher in the 800 and 1500 meter races. In the 800, Wichmann finished in 34th place with a time of 2:09.15. He ran a 4:23.70 in the 1500 meters, which placed him in 37th place.

Freshman Justin Whelply finished the 800 meter in 49th place with a time of 2:19.02.  Senior David Cummings ran a 4:33.95 in the 1500, which placed him in 48th.  One spot behind Cummings was sophomore Pat Johnson with a time of 4:34.23.

Cal Pac Cross Country runner of the year Michael Basuini finished 42nd in the 5000 meter race with a time of 16:14.74.  Junior Jonathan Hernandez took 62nd place with a time of 16:59.11. 

On the women's side, senior Hannah Wiesner had a stellar day.  Wiesner placed 15th in the 5000 meter race with a time of 19:37.05.  In the 1500 meters, she took 25th with a time of 5:09.36.

Sophomore Allyson Richmond continues to improve with a great start to the season in the 800 and 1500 meter races.  Richmond finished 41st in the 800 with a time of 2:41.68, while placing 39th in the 1500 with a time of 5:39.91. 

Senior Christina Malek finished the 800 meter race in 43rd place with a time of 2:44.80, while freshman Justine Kruger placed 43rd in the 1500 with a time of 5:50.62.

In the sprints, junior Lauren Young took 34th in the 100 meters race with a time of 15.28.  She placed 31st in the 200 meters with a time of 31.31.  Senior Emily Fernandez took 33rd with a time of 35.42. 

Freshman Jennah Richmond took 30th place in her first collegiate meet in the shot put.  Her top throw was 7.85 meters. 

The Warriors will continue practicing in preparation of their upcoming event, the UC Davis Open, to be held on Saturday, March 15th.
