Tibbs, Forgey shine for DWU at Minnesota State

Lane TibbsMANKATO, Minn. The Dakota Wesleyan University men s and women s indoor track and field teams headed east for the Minnesota State Multi and Open Friday and Saturday in Mankato, Minn.

The top finisher for the Tigers was freshman Lane Tibbs (Kennesaw, Neb.), who won the men s 5,000-meter run to DWU its lone individual victory of the event. Tibbs crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 3.95 seconds, outpacing Wayne State College s Justin Brueggemann by more than four seconds.

Junior Daniel Porter (Plattsmouth, Neb.) also had a strong showing for the Tiger men, placing third in the long jump with a leap of 13.23 meters.

Senior Ryan Antaya (Plankinton, S.D.) added a sixth-place showing in the weight throw with a toss of 15.25 meters.

On the women s side, junior Skylar Forgey (Colome, S.D.) had the best finish for the Tigers, taking second in the 1,000-meter run with a time over 3:05.07.

Sophomore Jessica Neises (Madison, S.D.) finished ninth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:49.06.

The Tigers are in action next at the Buena Vista Invite starting Friday in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Court-Menendez does it again

For the third time in her career, junior Nicole Court-Menendez (Lewiston, Maine) has qualified for the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the race walk. She accomplished the feat by by hitting the NAIA standard mark in her first competition of the season at the RWCSL Ozark 3000m Indoor Race Walk Saturday in Elsah, Ill.
