Coach Scott is "Rockin' The Stache" to Raise Prostate Cancer AwarenessPublished by
SAN MARCOS, Calif. Head Cal State San Marcos cross country and track & field coach Steve Scott recently finished prostate cancer treatment at the Scripps Health Proton Therapy Center, and now he's advocating to raise awareness.Coach Scott is participating in "Rock the Stache" during the month of November in the hopes that challenging men to grow a mustache will get people talking about prostate cancer and raising funds for cancer care. The 3-time Olympian and former American record holder in the mile is helping to raise awareness along with San Diego State head men's basketball coach Steve Fischer, who was successfully treated for prostate cancer with Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery at Scripps Mercy."Now's your chance to join the cause," said Susan Taylor, Executive Director, External Affairs at Scripps Health. "To spread the word, you can challenge your friends to grow a mustache and post your photos on social media to raise awareness about prostate cancer."While the challenge is light-hearted, prostate cancer is a serious matter. According to the American Cancer Society, it is the second-leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States, behind lung cancer. More than 29,000 men die in the United States each year from prostate cancer. To read more about coach Scott's battle and treatment at Scripps, click here.
