[Baseball] Baseball beats Calvin

The Cornerstone University baseball team defeated Calvin College this evening in a non-conference game at Cornerstone's DeWitt Field by a score of 14-5.

Ben Sheckler started on the mound for Cornerstone and pitched four innings in which he gave up five runs, three earned, on four hits, three walks, and three strikeouts. Jordon Smith (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win in relief by giving up no runs on one hit in three innings. Paul Freswick pitched the last two innings and also gave up zero runs.

The game was scoreless until the Golden Eagles erupted for nine runs in the second inning, all of which came after two outs. Cornerstone finished the day with 16 hits. They were led by Zach Harbison, Nick Covello, Sonny Mastromatteo, Evan Wagner, and Johnny Abbadusky who each had two hits. Tom Enslen reached base three times as well. Harbison drove in three runs and Covello scored three more.

The win brings Cornerstone's overall record to 14-14. The Golden Eagles host conference foe Aquinas College tomorrow afternoon for a double header beginning at 3:00.
