Plenty of Sunshine at Indoor Event

Tom Hamlin (left) and Blake FondaTen collegiate teams and nine track and field clubs converged on Westmont Saturday to participate in the fourth annual Sunshine Indoor Open Track and Field Meet. The event, which serves as a national championships indoor qualification opportunity, was competed outdoors at the Westmont Track under a clear sky with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s. The Westmont men's distance medley relay team of Nathan Evans, Bryan Avendano, Thomas Hamlin and Evan Kramer earned an automatic qualification to the NAIA Indoor National Championships by posting a time of 10:16.18 in a second place finish. The time was more than five seconds faster than the automatic qualification standard. Evans and Jacob Grant both posted provisional qualification marks in the men's 1,000 meters. Evans finished first with a time of 2:31.80, missing automatic qualification by 0.5 seconds. Grant finished in third place with a time of 2:31.95. Eric Wong of Westmont finished first in the men's weight throw, recording a distance of 13.09 meters (42-11). [results] [photos]
